Azula as Zuko’s Royal Advisor is where I see her ending up after everything is said and done. And yes I am ignoring the messy trash that is the comics. 

Zuko hands Azula his regency seal and then foists all his paperwork off onto her as revenge for trying to kill him. She swears up and down that this is much worse then what she put him through; he just laughs at her.

I like to think Zuko does eventually quietly hand Azula documents from the Father Lord’s era that reveal how poorly the country was being run behind the war front and little Miss Hyper Efficiency Perfectionism simply can’t help herself.

Like, she probably starts doing the mental math and soon she’s torching her desk because, like, the Fire Nation had been on a fast track to wide spread food shortages or something.

And that would have been before Ozai’s comet fueled slash and burn tactics he’d basically prompted her to voice for him. Y'all remember the Painted Lady episode right? Think of that village as just one of hundreds outside the capital or the rich people vacation hot spot of Ember Island. (he who burns the fall crops in the land he is trying to take over when the home country’s productivity is being slowly smothered by the environmental impact of war has no right to be so proud of himself).

And Azula further loses it at the number of incompetent bootlickers her father had running the non-war related offices. She sends for a document or some other information and none of the old men running around bowing can answer her questions. She tells them she wouldn’t trust them to keep tabs on a single toddler (Mai’s parent’s level of competence comes to mind) in a private palace courtyard let alone the day to day running of her country and fires most of them on the spot…. (With only minimal blue flames involved, won’t Zuzu be so proud of her). Soon half the domestic affairs offices are being run by much younger people. People who almost meet her unrealistic expectations. Not surprisingly many are female. Only slightly surprisingly (given her use of the Di Li) many are colony kids of mixed heritage.

Many, many of the old regime and their sympathizers are not pleased but who’s going to argue with the pet dragon keeping Fire Lord and his ‘I have shot lightning with intent to kill before, hope you have the Avatar’s healer girlfriend on speed dial’ sister?

The first thought I had when I read this more than 20 years ago was; “Grendel’s Mother has had enough of this shit.”

Guys, when Azulon ordered Ozai to kill Zuko, do y'all think his intention was for Ozai to actually do it? Or do you think Azulon just told Ozai to do that to teach him a lesson about family and didn’t expect Ozai to want to go through with it?

I rlly don’t know the answer myself. Like i want to believe in the goodness of people but seeing how ruthless Ozai was, he had to get that from somewhere right

Keep in mind once Azulon dismisses the audience, except Ozai, the only facts we have about the conversation come from Azula’s mouth. And Azula always lies.

So here’s how I think that night actually went down:

1. Azulon says something to the effect of I’m gonna punish your ruthless ladder climbing, how would you like to lose your first born son? (Some fans figure his actual plan was to transfer custody of Zuko to Iroh. Thus replacing the lineage lost with Lu Ten and punishing Ozai by raising his young son above him in the line of succession. It’s a semi reasonable plan.) To which Ozai says something, it doesn’t matter what cause it’s a lie anyway. The real answer is that Ozai would do anything for ultimate power. (I genuinely wonder if he got Lu Ten assassinated and framed the Earth Kingdom for it. It feels very plausible given Iroh didn’t seem to blame the Earth Kingdom for his loss.)

2. Azula hears this, knows Ozai would do anything for ultimate power and being the jealous little, sucking up to Daddy, gremlin that she is, promptly boils the actual words said down to “father’s going to kill you”.

3. It upsets Zuko, that was her intention, but it also scares Ursa. It scares her enough to get desperate. Desperate enough to make unwise choices.

4. Ursa confronts Ozai about it, desperate to do anything to save her son. She probably promises exactly that, to do anything to save Zuko.

5. Ozai doesn’t correct her slightly twisted information because she just promised him anything for the life of her son. And he knows exactly what he wants. He wants daddy dearest gone and himself crowned Fire Lord. He’s clearly got Fire Sages in his pocket so all Ursa needs to do is … Do in Azulon.

What it’s like for short people to give encouragement.

The Kanna/Pakku discourse is always so very strange to me because, the reasons old people get married are *not* the reasons young people get married. Older people are generally looking for companionship over anything else. People who would not have made good spouses to raise children with can make perfectly good spouses to play cards and go on walks with.

Kanna’s choice to marry Pakku in her 70s does not negate her choice to not marry him in her teens.

Honestly the more I think about it the more I’m convinced Kana found out she was pregnant and took one look at Pakku and the whole North Pole society and literally said

“I’d rather raise my son in the war ravaged South than with you morons.” And then went and did that. (Maybe she asked Pakku to come with and he was stubborn and prideful…. Yeah that’s highly likely.)

But after the war her personal needs in a partner are different, she doesn’t have a son to raise, her grandchildren are literally world saving heroes, and as an added bonus Pakku finally took some “respects women’s rights” critical hits to his ego. The time was finally right.

i don’t think people realise just how funny chit sang as a character is. he’s just some dude. a random dude who somehow busts out of the hardest to escape to prison and ends up camping with the avatar for a night. can you imagine going drinking with your buddies after that?? “oh yeah did u hear the avatar defeated the firelord” “yep. i met him after his friend accidentally busted me out of prison”

Also have you seen his eyes? That big burly bear of a man has the palest greenest eyes I’ve ever seen on a fire bender!!!

He’s gotta be a colony boy.

Personally, I head cannon that he and Hakoda and that stolen airship full of Earth Kingdom children get up to some shenanigans before they get invited to Zuko’s coronation. I’d have also loved to see the guy work for Zuko somehow.
